11/18/2006 - French Boy |
This is a drawing I did last night while half-watching a movie with the guys... my studio is right next to the family room and so I could lay on the floor with the studio lights on and see what I was doing, turning around and pausing every once in awhile... I wanted to try and draw more realistically (inspired by Dali again... he did a BEAUTIFUL drawing (scroll down on link above) of his father and sister that got me excited to draw like this again). I'm very proud of this drawing, though if you look at my reference (Young Boy, Gondeville, Charente, France, 1951 by photographer Paul Strand), you see that I didn't quite get his wonderful expression. Oh well. I'm trying to not pick at that, even though the goal would be a better likeness. I do think that it's a beautiful drawing on its own..... (Isn't it hard to just love oneself unconditionally?)

| I think it is a wonderful drawing! I guess you could get better at getting the exact expression with practice. I just started a line drawing book and have been trying to do some faces and hands. I've never been confident in my drawing, but I am trying to figure out the shapes and shading. Noses have been difficult, oh and mouths. When I get frustrated, I go back to words and patterns. More drawing Carla! |
