1/9/2007 - Establishing a Routine |
One difficult thing about working for yourself is an inherent lack of structure. Usually when I have a show or other impending deadline, I can buckle down and work hard. But when my next major deadline is at the end of March, I'm not so motivated. What happens, then, is a lot of goofing off. I spend more time online. I go ahead and watch "Hogan's Heroes" with Wes when he gets home from school. Etc. Actually, I know that my "down time" is essential to the creative life I have chosen. And I'm so grateful for it! But at times I let it go a little far, I think. My solution is to try and set up more of a routine to my days. For what it's worth, here it is: 8:00 - 9:00 - Drive Wes to school, make coffee, check e-mails, goof off online, breakfast with Steve (in that order). 9:00 - 12:00 - Paint or make purses or journals. 12:00 - 1:00 - lunch 1:00 - 3:00 - Fill etsy orders, add new items, etc. 3:00 - 5:30 - goof off with Wes, go to the bank and PO, work on whatever So far so good (I'm on day #2).

I can fully relate to this, except you're coping better than me!
Try adding fear of failure into the mix & you have a recipe for procrastination. (no, please don't)
