Mikie's Blog

• 10/29/2005 - Nothing But Good News!

Just got back from the 5:30 AM visit.  Mikie is doing FANTASTIC!  He is breathing on his own, his stats are very good, though his heart rate and temp is up just a bit, but that’s pretty normal for post-op.  His blood pressure is normal, and his blood gases are within normal (not just acceptable, but NORMAL) ranges. Since the old shunt was removed, a temporary tube was placed in Mikie’s head.  There is now longer a manual pump but now it drains on its own and the spinal fluid is clear!  We are waiting for word for when they will pull the tubing from the ventilator, but so far he is doing far better than he did two years ago at this point in the procedure.

God is so good.  Words can not express how grateful we are to our Lord for his grace and mercy right now.

Mikie is getting some wonderful care at Richland right now and I want to make sure I record some names. We are thankful for Cindy and Betty, for Hampton and Butch, for Maria and Aaron, and for several other nurses that we only saw for single shifts whose names I have forgotten. Neuro-doc Smith and Dr. Bynoe were fantastic. I actually could not get an image of Dr. Smith’s face in my mind until I saw him again. But I don’t think I will ever forget the satisfied look on his face as he told us the good news after the surgery. Neither will I forget a phrase that he used several times, “I’m sorry your son is sick.” It was very simply said but with a sincere seriousness. Dr. Dial is no longer in the picture because of some changes in neurosurgery at Richland, but we are thankful for his honesty and frankness with us and the many years of experience that he brought to the operating table. There are many others that have been working on Mikie that we rarely see, but we know they are there and we appreciate their dedication.

Here's the song on my lips today!

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

Refrain

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Refrain

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Refrain
