I just got back from the 5:30 AM visit. Nurse Angela took my advice and let him lay on his right side. Out like a baby. He really looks well and could probably only have looked better if he was in his own bed. I stayed a few minutes just to soak in the site.
Melissa, one of the nurses that took care of Mikie back in 2003 stopped by the other day. We talked of our ordeal and she smiled and said that Mikie is a fighter, stubborn like his parents. Weve certainly been touched by a lot of different people.
Ive been looking up stuff on the internet. You have to be careful, some of it is quite outdated. I found some stuff about Spinal Meningitis that just is true. It used to be considered quite contagious, and it just isnt true anymore. I suppose it has to do with our ability to clean and sterilize things now. We all hear of the deadly diseases that strike third world countries with devastating impact, and yet they just dont have much effect here. It may not always be true, but we handle communicable diseases pretty well. Then again, there is some concern we might be creating super bugs by our overuse of antibiotics and antibacterial soaps.
Here are a few words worth looking up: spinal meningitis, septicemia (blood poisoning).
