2:00 PM - The hospital called me at work today. They wanted to replace his feeding tube at his bedside with one a little larger. Now they want to go with a J tube and do it in radiology. Most of his stats were normal, but he was a little warm so we turned on a fan.
5:30 PM – There is some confusion about the feeding tube. They are going to wait until tomorrow. It sounded like the same old stuff we used to run into when we would take Mikie to the hospital to get a new tube. They would always send us to radiology and we would have to argue our way to the G-lab. We’ve got to call the doctor tomorrow and find out what their plan is. Supposedly it was Dr. Reddy that told them he wanted it to go in further into the jejunum (middle part of the small intestine). I’ll have to call Dr. Reddy’s office tomorrow and see if I can find out what is going on. We bumped into Dr. Narayan and had a nice chat. He is headed to Ohio this fall, taking his NP Russ with him. He said he heard Mikie was getting a new shunt on Friday, or that is what is planned. We are going to miss seeing Dr. Narayan.
9:00 PM – Mikie is really looking good. I suctioned him out a bit at the 5 PM visit and tonight he sounds very clear. They said they were going to do some percussion therapy on him but he sure didn’t sound like he needed it now. All his stats are normal now. He really looks like he is ready to come home. He is trying to play with his toy the best he can with his hands tied down. If they are not careful he could easily rip some stuff out.
Lorraine and I are both getting up for the 5 AM visit and going to breakfast afterwards. (That’s the plan, we will see!) I was so tired yesterday after a long day at work (yes, once in a while they give me enough mail to make me earn my money), that I went to bed before 7 PM. For the most part I slept all night only waking up a few times to look at the clock. Of course I was up again at 5 AM.
I don’t know why, but lately I have been noticing that I am finally absorbing enough of the hymns I hear to start remembering the words. And when I hear them now I find myself paying more attention to the words, and I think they really minister to me. I’m looking forward to having Mikie home and singing some hymns with him. We are already thinking of how we can get around and visit some of the churches that have been praying for him. I don’t think we will get as far away as Hungary, but you never know!

• 11/2/2005 - Mikey
Linda (Bham) forwarded a couple of emails to me about Mikey, and I just wanted to say that I am so glad that he is doing better. I am sending prayers your way from Illinois.
