We did NOT get to go home today.  Mikie got sick last night.  So the NG tube is still in and we are back in a holding pattern until they can get a grip on this. 

Mikie has had a pretty good day today, considering that he threw up one time last night.  I think it was a fluke, probably because we fed him too much and then started the tube feeding too early.  It still needs to be explained why bile is coming back into his stomach.  Dr. Fann came up today and talked to Lorraine.  He is going to look at the radiology reports and revisit the records for the tube placement.  He read what I wrote for him and agreed that my rationale for going back to a short J tube was reasonable.  He prescribed Reglan to help get the stomach moving but when I read about the side effects I canceled the order until I talk to him.  I might agree to try it if Mikie’s stomach is full of bile, but at this time it is empty.  Lorraine had Russ check it this morning and it had bile in it.  I checked it as soon as I got up here and it was empty.  Neither Lorraine nor I have seen any seizures today, and he is probably sleeping more than normal.  He is running a bit of a temp, a little over 100.  I think he has a cold.  When I got here after work I sat him up and tried to feed him some pudding.  He ate about ¾ of a can but just wasn’t responsive enough for me to attempt to give it all to him. 

Lorraine and I are worn out.  I told her not to hang around today waiting on doctors. She was able to catch Dr. Fann this morning and I talked to Dr. Smith this evening. While Dr. Fann is working out the GI problems Dr. Smith ordered some scans of his work in Mikie’s head and heart just to see if everything is in place as it should be. Since Mikie is sleeping so well I am going home soon to get some rest (it is now 7:30 PM).  I’ll beg the nurses to check him often and clean out his mouth as needed to prevent gagging.
