It’s 7:15 AM, we just got back from the hospital. Mikie is much better now than he was last night. When we left around 9:30 PM he was still going in and out of stages of agitation. We remember when he was here last time the times when he was at his worst he would clinch his hands into very tight fists. You could barely get them pried open. It was a sign to me that he was either extremely uncomfortable or in some pain. Quite commonly when you or I go to the doc with pain they will ask us to rate it. Moaning and groaning with no relief from the pain would be a 10 for me, but Mikie rarely cries out from pain, but I would rate his level of discomfort at it’s worst yesterday right up there at a 9 or 10. Knowing that his seizure meds will usually knock him out and seeing that it helped early in the day we asked for them to go ahead with his next dose. It helped and his heart rate dropped back under 150.
But this morning it was all good news, his heart rate was down around 115 and he was sleeping comfortably. They had no news yet about any results from the scans or blood work. Well, we did talk to John, one of the neuro-NP’s, and he said the CT scans for the shunt show no changes from the one they took just before he was released last time.
I’ll post more as I we learn more. As I said, he is in ICU, so I wouldn’t bother attempting to visit, and since we are only 5 minutes away we only come up there during the times they let us come back, so you probably won’t find us there in the waiting room.
For those of you that have our cell phone number, it is no longer working. We might go get a new one this morning and will then have a new number.
