Mikie seems to be coming around. We just saw him at the 1 PM visit (it is now around 2) and he looked much better, even like he was starting to respond and wake up a bit. At the 9 AM visit we found out he got quite agitated after shift change at 7 and they had to give him a drug called lopressor. This is what I found out about it. Another name for it would be Metoprolol.
Metoprolol is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure. It also is used to prevent angina (chest pain) and to treat heart attacks. Extended-release (long-acting) metoprolol also is used in combination with other medications to treat heart failure. Metoprolol is in a class of medications called beta blockers. It works by slowing the heart rate and relaxing the blood vessels so the heart does not have to pump as hard.
She said they would be repeating it as well. It seems to be doing the job. Still no idea about what was is causing him to be so agitated. It was just so good to see him with a pulse under 100 and alert enough to open one eye. The nurse even talked about the possibility of him being moved out of ICU today. We’ll know more at the 5 PM visit.
Thanks for praying.
