We are in the new room and Mikie has finally settled down. He’s been slightly agitated all afternoon and evening. I’ve found that stimulating his mouth with a sponge on a stick distracts him a bit and can break the rhythm of his rapid breathing – sometimes. If these were seizures I do not believe that would be possible. Any time he has had one of his regular seizures, the ones we are used to, there is nothing you can do to stop it, they have to run their course. Still no word on the tests. I have to admit that I messed with the guys that will look at the EEG just a bit. I couldn’t resist. While the camera was on Mikie I would bring his frog into view like a puppet and have it creep up to Mikie’s face and then turn and look at the camera, all without letting them see my hand. Oh, I wish I would have had my D’lites with me! (For you non-magicians, it would have looked like I was pulling little red lights out of Mikie’s mouth and ears.) The nurse said I was like a little kid when Lorraine told her what I did. I did get to show some of the nurses some magic last night, and they loved it.
Mikie’s pulse is just a tad over 100 right now (at 9 PM) and he is sleeping peacefully with normal breathing. They will be in a few minutes to give him his seizure meds and then we are going to go home and get some rest. Lorraine may stay with him tomorrow night, depending on how things go tonight. They took pretty good care of us while we were on the 6th floor before, I’m sure they will do their best again.
It does my heart good to see him so peaceful right now. I really thank God for these moments.
