If I wasn’t looking at the monitors I would say Mikie is doing pretty well. It seems he is tired and is resting without too much difficulty. Since the ventilator is doing all his breathing for him it must take a lot of the load off him. But the machines tell us that they are still having some trouble with his blood pressure, getting it up though that have had it up in the 100’s and a little higher at times. His temp has gone up as much as 104 but was back down to 102 when we saw him at 5. Heart rate is close to 150 now. Doc still thinks infection. I don’t, but it could be. They will get some spinal fluid from the shunt some time today and we are hoping it is clear. If not, then I suppose it will be over. We just can’t see putting him through another shunt replacement. He has only had one or two observed seizures, and they were intense but short. This could be expected since he has not had any seizure meds for a few days. His belly is still somewhat tight and swollen and the doc thinks that is where they will find the infection. I think they will find something functionally wrong with his peg placement. I think the food and water I gave him Monday did not go into the intestine, but into the abdominal cavity. If it has pulled away from the abdominal wall than we have a reason for his dehydration and low blood pressure. The resulting pain would also cause the temp and heart rate to go up. His kidney is functioning but the urine output is not great, probably not what it should be. One of the problems is that he is so sick right now that he might not survive any surgery to correct the intestinal problems. His blood is looking good, platelet counts and all. Potassium levels were a bit low and they weren’t able to give him anything because they only have one line. Well, only HAD, because they got another one placed in his groin. They did see another clot down there though.
Condition is serious but I am encouraged that we might be closer to an answer.
Thanks for praying. |
