Potato chip scarf update10/15/2005

Remember that potato chip scarf I decided to make out of sock yarn? It's almost done. It took motivation. It's going to be the bind off from hell. I've decided to add about 20 beads or charms, and join it, and it'll be a row counter, or a stitch counter.

http://wendyknits.net/knit/badass.htm

check out that link. That's sometime show I feel about knitting, I became interested in knitting when I was in the needlework aisle at B and N. I was looking for cross stitch books, and noticed Stitch and Bitch, and S and B Nation. I wanted, so very badly, to buy both books, but I had no idea how to get the thread onto the needles, and then how to make it knit. I did buy the first book, and I got home, and played with the thumb-cast method, but couldn't figure out the long-tail cast on. I  finally, out of desperation, went to the local yarn store one I am near, but one I knew to totally avoid even going into, even though I have  a love of fibers.

http://www.knitcraft.com/knitcraft/index.php at that  very store, in the middle, is a wicker table and chairs, and that is where I learned to knit.

I bought my needles, size 8 plastic, and some cheap yarn into the store, and she showed me how to do the long-tail cast on. I went home, and night after night, I did the cast on, so I wouldn't forget how. About this time, I joined the eGA (last August). I learned how to do hardanger soon after I leanred to do knitting. Then, I bought some fun fur by LB, and made my very first scarf, then,I bought some Caron's soft thick, and made a second scarf.

Then,  I bought my USM by Bond, and made a sweater and a vest and a shrug, and now a pair of socks. I like to do cross stitching, hardanger, and now, knitting. Knitting is cool cause you don't have to worry, oh gee, what am I going to do with it, I don't need another....(needleroll, picture, pin cushion, whatever....I hunger for needlerolls. I love them.)  http://www.shepherdsbush.net/products/kits/rolls/stitcher's.html

I have them displayed in a wire bowl. I have aobut 15 of them. All different.

That's my background. I've been around thread most of my life. My mom sews, and sews very well. I can't sew, but I can do all kinds of things with fibers.

Quiz10/13/2005

I'm a bamboo needle, according to the quiz, but when I use my Addis, I fly. Infact, I'm changing most of my needles, these next two months, to Addi's. No more frustration,a nd more needles to knit socks with. Knitting garments and such are such fun, why be frustrated with cheap needles? Another brand, which I love, are Balene. I have a circular Balen, size 5, and some sized 7  straight.I find patterns calling for size 8 circular, and I'm not wasting my money, I'll just get the size 8 circs when the time comes, and when I see them. I guess to say,I prefer size 7, I learned to knit, (last year about this time), on size 8's.

I recieved word, today, from a local yarn shop, that the price of Addi's keep inching upwards. All I have to have are a size 8. I have 0-1-3-4-5 and a pair of 11's on order, cause I'm having troubles with the 11 bamboos, which I love. It's for a poncho made with LIon's brand suede. The pattern, is actually a lace knitting pattern, but I was already making it, before I started this blog. The sued looks cool-it looks like leather lace.

Very cool10/9/2005

I found this on Knitty.com. I have a pattern similar to this in the Lion's Brand Fur all the Time book, but, I think the LB pattern will actually cost way more than this to make, cause it takes several skeins of fun fur, which can run as much as 6.00 a skein.

Needles10/8/2005

Let's discuss needles. I decided, since I live quite close to HL, to go there, and grab some size 13 circs, for making a lace ponch, to help with my lace making skills and YO, so I can make the lace scarf. the lace poncho is pretty easy.

So, I  buy size 13, 29 inch Boyes, and four skeins of LB suede. I can picture a poncho made of this stuff, so I'll make one myself. It's not a hard pattern, it's from Knitter's Edge...so I can't post it here. Describe it, yes.

I cast on my 120 stitches, and I think everything is going well, and all of a sudden, the yarn doesn't move. It keeps getting stuck on the ridge between the needle and the cable. I swear, the ridge grew within minutes of using the things. Then, they became like box springs, old box springs. I swear, they are made out of the same thing. I couldn't get the yarn to go either way. Then, the yarn became tight, and I had to cut the yarn, and I wasted quite a bit. I couldn't get the yarn off of the box springs!Well, I found my size 11 circs, got the calculator out, did some math I could've done in my head, and figured that 132 stitches on 11 needles were equal to around 126 stitches on size 13 needles. So, I recasted on 132 needles, but I had  along tail.

I thought everything was going well, till, I got to then end of what I thought was the actual working yarn, and it's the end of the darned tail. I did about 24 stitches. To undo them isn't that big oof deal, I guess. I hate it, I was so  careful.

Now, I have to ask anyone who is reading this. I don't have a 29 inch waist. Will this stretch to 35 inches? It's on a 29 inch needle, so far...(I got on www.elann.com and ordered the size 11, Addi Turbo's, 40 inches long, and paid for it immediately.) Does that mean it will  stretch itself around me? By my math, it should. But I don't understand cause it makes a 29 inch circle, am I not right, or is it so bunched up, I cna't see it? It's on size 11, 29 inch Clover bamboo, which are very good needles, but AT are way better. I love my C.lover bamboo, exspecially, my straight Clovers.

So, I have to undo 24 stitches, very carfeully, to the start of the circle, and start again....Let's see, 4 hour poncho, it's already 9:00, need a shower, (think, my priorities), 4 hour poncho, undo 24 stitches...inother words, take it appart, again, and recast them on, and by then it will be 10:00, and I need a shower cause I have church tomorrow. I was planning on wearing this one tomorrow. Will be up until atleast 3 a.m.., stitching....guess there's not church for me tomorrow. Was goign to color my hair, but now I'm afraid to, itmight turn out green.

Lace10/6/2005

I want to take the stocking's pattern from the book Stitch aned Bitch Nation, and knit them as if they are a scarf...how cool is that? A scarf, that's a net.

Maybe I just want to make some lace. It's not fair to only post one pattern, I'm almost done with it. Then, I'll start another. I think this is it:

Welcome!10/5/2005

Welcome to the Scarf of the Month Club! Where I'm going to blog on and on about my needlework, and knitting and post links to free knitting patterns (scarves, socks, etc.) I'll post free patterns, then we choose the yarn, needles, whatever, and make together, just like a scarf of the month club you pay for. This is better, this is free.

I have a Bond Knitting machine, also, so I will have to include it in these patterns too.

If a pattern catches your eye, link it to this blog.

Here's what's on my needles in my hands, now:

   http://www.knitpicks.com/Projects/projects_display_yarn.aspx?itemid=50355220

I had an idea... what would this be like in sock yarn? I bought some sock yarn at Hobby Lobby. It probably won't wear well for socks, so I decided to use it for other things.

I'm also going to knit leg warmers for my dog. Pattern to be posted later. I have numer 1, Addi Turbos, 32 inch for tis scarf. It  might or might not work, but  it's kind of cool, and I think it'll be a thin little spiral thing.
