Oh my God. They've unleashed Geraldo!!!This is going to be another long one folks so buckle up and just keep reading. Hurricane Katrina just keeps getting more confusing as each day goes by. I can already see the books and the movie scripts as they are being typed up. Everything is here folks crime, racism, sexism, partisan politics, cannibalism and even Geraldo. I knew it was only a matter of time before they unleashed Geraldo and there he was out there being the true man of the people, crying and holding children and topping it off with a pointless interview with author Ann Rice. She's rich you idiot! I'm sure she'll be able to rebuild. Go back to Iraq Geraldo, our boys miss you there.
For the last few days I've been watching the news and scratching my head. As a black man born and raised in the south seeing all those faces, the ones who were left behind made me ask some crazy questions. The first one that has come up so many times in the discussions I've had with my friends is that if you had the ability to get out which apparently quite a few of these people did why would you CHOOSE to stay? There are definitely people who were infirmed and had no mode of transportation but before the levy broke I saw people on TV saying that they weren't going anywhere. If the great storm that was Katrina washed away the breath of these people I don't count it as a great loss. I certainly can't place a higher value on your life than you do yourself. Just before I was born my Grandfather's home was destroyed in a tornado back in Alabama. There were injuries and alot of priceless family history was lost but they all survived and lived on to rebuild.
I was flipping channels this morning and saw a rescue worker named Tommy screaming into the cameras. I thought it was another one of those idiotic anti-Bush tirades but I wanted to be fair and at least listen. After all, he was there and I wasn't. He was screaming because he was going into devastated neighborhoods trying to evacuate people and they were STILL refusing to leave. They were surrounded by water and had no working utilities and quite a few of them had working cars which were now flooded of course but they didn't want to leave their homes. The camera begins to pan up to one of the victims on the second floor of one of the buildings and I found myself praying that they weren't black and then I saw him. There on a balcony stood a little black child about 3 years old in nothing but his underwear. He stood there for a moment and then his mother opened up the door and pulled him inside. The rescue workers are there so I'm wondering why she would stay and subject her child to those types of harsh living conditions. What happened to a parent placing the needs of their children above their own needs? Since race has been so prominitly featured in all of this I certainly don't think that white parents love their children any more than black parents do and I've heard some people hint that if there was a white mayor in the city of New Orleans that some of this wouldn't have happened. I think that that is just about as stupid as blaming Bush for the damn storm in the first place. I didn't know that the ability to control the weather came with the office but now that I do I'm throwing my hat in the ring for the '08 election.
Since we're talking about mistakes that the local government might have made it's very hard to ignore this one that I found via Junkyard Blog.
Then of course there was this infamous group of photos
And this horrifying display from Kanye West.
But what I found the most shocking was this story that I found via Instapundit. Note the date of August 28th and if you don't feel like reading the whole article please at least read this passage.
What was that? Who called for the evacuation? Not George Bush. George Bush doesn't give a damn about all those niggers suffering down there in New Orleans. All he cares about is rich white folks, or at least that's what I've been reading on all those liberal blogs and seeing on the news from CNN where I was surprised to see Bill Clinton defending the President and slamming all those Monday morning quarterbacks. Hey Bill all is forgiven buddy and after seeing Monica Lewinsky all dolled up a few months back I probably would have banged her too. I even saw Bill Marr joke on his show that President Bush was exhausted because he spent the day "Hugging Negroes". He said the President just didn't get it but according to that AP story ole' Dubya got it several days ago and called for an evacuation that saved thousands of lives.
By the way the 3 year old I mentioned earlier is finally on his way to a shelter. Thank God. { Post a Comment } { Last Page } { Page 72 of 121 } { Next Page } |
