Second star to the right...

October 28th 2005, a day like other days yet filled with the events that alter and illuminate our times. Enter one George Takei, known to millions of Star Trek fans world wide as Hikaru Sulu, steady helmsman of the U.S.S. Enterprise. This past Friday Takei sent a ripple through the millions of 40 year old virgins that make up Trek fandom by announcing "I've been sharing my bed with a man named Brad for the last 18 years and you can all go fuck yourselves!". Well maybe it didn't quite come out like that but it sure felt like a real kick in the balls nonetheless. Besides most of us thought it was Shatner. Note to George: Me thinks you took the phrase "Where no man has gone before" a bit too literally. Live long and prosper!

Sulu's a fag? Who knew? I've been a Trekkie since I was 6 and I didn't see that one coming or is that cuming? ;) When I read this post I thought it was a goof so I did some searches on Google and it's totally true. I don't hate gays or anything but Star Trek was something special to me as a child. I was 23 when my father died but I remember watching the reruns with him as a kid along with Superman, Wild Wild West, and Gunsmoke. I'm sorry but if James Arness or George Reeves had come out queer that would ruin those shows for me. Thank god Sulu is only a supporting character, if it was Kirk or Spock it would fuck me up.

Nothing wrong with being gay, it doesn't define who you are as a person. It's just like being straight. I don't get on national TV and tell the world I'm straight, who cares if someone is gay? I't's no one's business and it should stay that way. People can't help the way they are born.

Celebrities should keep their private life private. Takei's been gay for decades and no one knew outside of the people in his private circle and the world didn't blow up. I always shudder when gay celebrities feel the need to expose themselves to the public. Hollywood is all about entertainment and illusion so let a young man who thinks that his boyhood hero goes home to a woman keep thinking it even it's not true. Let all those women that fantasized about Rock Hudson keep dreaming while Rock privately goes home to his boyfriend. Most straight people don't go around and announce to the public that they are straight and even if you aren't straight that's your private business not mine.
