Carol

I ran in to an old flame today at work and it brought back alot of memories. 10 years ago I met Carol when she was the assistant manager at the Hardee's I was working at. I didn't fall for her instantly but when I finally did I fell hard. The thing is that at the same time I was falling for Carol we had hired a new clean up man named Terry. I asked Carol if we might be able to go out sometime and she said maybe. I tried to set a date but she said not to rush things and since I always end up blowing it I was trying to be careful. I didn't notice that she had taken a liking to Terry and over the next week or so she let me down easy but I was 19 and madly in love. I thought that if I just kept trying maybe I could turn things around and get her to change her mind. What was even worse is that I had started to become friends with Terry. He didn't know I liked Carol at least he didn't until Carol herself told him. If he felt bad about it that didn't stop him from fucking her but then I can't blame him for that since I wanted to do the same thing. Carol told him that they should keep their relationship a secret from me and they did so I kept making a fool of myself chasing her. Until one day one of her friends let it slip that she was out on a date with Terry. It took everything in my power not to let a look of utter heartbreak fall upon my face. It's 10 years later and I still remember feeling instantly drained when I heard the news. To make a long story short Terry and Carol were totally wrong for each other but as it does so often in life it took numerous breakups,affairs and a baby to finally help Carol to see what my 19 year old eyes saw all along.

A few more years pass and another guy comes along and leaves yet another kid and this is where my part of the story kicks in. Over the last year I began seeing Carol at various spots around town. It's kind of weird going 5 or 6 years not seeing someone and then running into them all of the time all in one space of time. All of your reference points are outdated because your trying to catch each other up on all the shit that you missed, In any case the now single mother of two Carol seems to enjoy flirting with me which scares me to death because I still have a soft spot for her. I've been seeing Inas for a year now and it has been one of the greatest times of my life but with Carol I feel like there is unfinished business between us. This last time I was talking
to her I admitted to her that one of the reasons I quit Hardee's all those years ago was because I was in love with her. She responded by saying that I could do something about it now if I was single but I'm not single am I? That's the story of my life...always batting cleanup. I couldn't get her when she was young with no kids and no baggage but now I'm a catch! God has got to be fucking with me.
