Fake news that makes Dan Rather proud!!!

I found this great site the other day about what really caused Dave Chapelle to end production of his hit show and back out of a deal that would have netted him and estimated 50 million dollars. I say would have because I've seen written in other places that he already got the 50 mil and Comedy Central is piecing together what footage was already shot to at least make some of the money back. Anyone who knows anything about the entertainment business knows that's not true. You don't fork over 50 million dollars up front without having anything to show for it though they are putting together the season 3 footage that was shot without Chappelle's help and you can download some of it at Comedycentral.com.

My understanding of Dave's new contract was that it called for more upfront money  in that his per show fees would be increased quite a bit but the bulk of the money was to come from the sale of further seasons of Chappelle's Show on DVD. Chappelle felt like he was taken to the cleaners by Comedy Central as they reaped the bulk of the profits from his DVD sets. I read one article at the time that stated that for season 1 which has sold over 1.7 million copies Chappelle contract only allowed for a small portion of the profits and that out of over 40 million dollars made Chappelle only netted around $500 to $800,000 off the sets and since season 2 was about to be released he wanted to renegotiate the deal which they did and Chappelle signed what remains a record breaking deal for a basic cable star. The only thing that comes close to matching that deal is the one that Matt Stone and Trey Parker signed for 3 more seasons of South Park. When I first found this site it was different and the creators were not taking credit for the site and it was being portrayed as if it were in fact real. In fact where you see the words "bullshit" the word "confidential" was there instead. The site has gotten so much attention that I guess the creators want to let people off the hook now though when I read it earlier I thought parts of it sounded absurd especially the part where Oprah and Robert Johnson team up to beam a special TV message into Chappelle's home.
