Star Wars and beyond...I just finished watching the new Star Wars trailer for Episode III. The first one was just a teaser but I loved it and this one was even more impressive. If the movie is as good as the trailer this movie is going to kick some serious ass! Unlike a lot of people I actually liked what Lucas is doing in these new movies. He has repeatedly said that he knew that people would be bored with the back story of how the empire was formed but he couldn't just skip that part of the story because it would take away from the rest of the story as a whole. In the first trilogy a lot of these things are mentioned but never really explained so I knew that it would be nessacerry when explaining the back story to explain some of these things. I'm going to go see Robots to catch the trailer on the big screen.
I love CGI animation but I am saddened to hear that a lot of traditional animators are being layed off because CGI is taking over. I still think that there is a place for both art forms. I'd hate to have kids and have them wake up on a Saturday morning and only have CGI animated shows to watch. I grew up on the Smurfs,He-Man,G.I.Joe,the Transformers, and Thundercats. I also remember Voltron(both car and lion versions!),Silverhawks,Robotech,Superfriends and Jem. When I got into high school there was a great lineup on Fox; Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs, Peter Pan, and Batman the animated series. They also had that great Spiderman cartoon and X-men. I still watch the Simpsons every week and am salivating waiting for Family Guy to return as well as American Dad although the episode that aired right after the Superbowl was not very strong I still believe that Seth Macfarland is a genius. While I'm mentioning McFarlands how many people were fans of HBO's Spawn cartoon? Or how about the brilliant Gargoyles which can still be seen sometimes on the Disney Channel or Disney Toon. I also love the Cartoon networks incredible Samurai Jack and the Justice League series. I haven't even mentioned my love for classics like the Flintstones, Rocky and Bullwinkle,Popeye and Bugs Bunny and the Loony Tunes. I could go on and on but you get the idea there is still a lot of life in this artform. The Japanese certainly seem to think so but the times are changing and CGI allows the creators to shave a third if not half of the time that it takes to get an animated movie done. They are already in preproduction on Shrek 4 and 3 hasn't even came out yet. Laters! { Post a Comment } { Last Page } { Page 115 of 121 } { Next Page } |
