Nicole Richie and her rocker boyfriend Joel Madden are the parents of a daughter, the couple's rep at Handprint Entertainment tells PEOPLE.
Harlow Winter Kate Madden was born Friday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and weighed 6 lbs. 7 oz.
"The beautiful healthy baby girl left the hospital with her ecstatic parents," says the rep, who confirmed the birth to PEOPLE exclusively.
Richie, 26, said she was pregnant in July, telling Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America: "I would really want to be someone my child would look up to."
Later, Richie, who had a famously wild childhood, said the idea of parenthood had made her more mature. "When I found out that I was pregnant, there was just something inside of me that felt a responsibility to mend any issues that I've had with my parents in the past, because, listen, I've put them through a lot," she said.
As for Good Charlotte frontman Madden, 28, he told PEOPLE in November he was looking forward to being a dad. "Having a baby is the most exciting thing that's ever happened to me, and to us," he said.
And the new parents plan to teach their little one the value of generosity. In December, the couple started the Richie Madden Children's Foundation to help the less fortunate. "We want our child to be a part of the community, and to know that there's a responsibility to help the community," Madden said at the time.
The couple have yet to set a wedding date, but in September Madden said "marriage is in our future" – he just wasn't sure when. "Right now our priority is our family and is the baby," he said. "That's all we've been thinking about. We are in love and are really happy."

Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal must've picked up a taste for wine – and for each other – when they were recently in Italy together, because just three weeks after returning from that trip, the two were off among the grapes again, this time in California's wine country.
As PEOPLE reports in its latest issue, Witherspoon, 31, and Gyllenhaal, 26, checked into the Carneros Inn in the Napa Valley last Sunday, and went on to spend a cozy 24-hours in one of the resort's private homes.
"They were very affectionate with one another," says an onlooker. "They were cuddling, and he kept giving her little kisses."
The two even bailed on a couples massage in favor of an evening in, the source says, adding, "It was clear they wanted to be left alone."
It Started in Spring
Although initially careful to avoid the spotlight when they first began dating, Witherspoon and Gyllenhaal's relationship first got noticed when they were spotted March 23 dining with two other couples at Los Angeles's Il Sole – where they were "being playful," an observer said at the time.
Although the pair didn't have much screen time together while filming Rendition for eight weeks in Morocco, during a reshoot in L.A., "Jake went and reintroduced himself to Reese," a source close to both actors told PEOPLE.
From there, said a friend of Witherspoon's, "Things slowly progressed, but it was never something she thought would happen from the start. She just kind of developed this little crush over time."
Only by June, that crush had been crushed: "They just recently broke up," a source in Witherspoon's circle told PEOPLE. "It's totally and completely over."
Except, little by little, the pieces started coming together again.
"Jake's cute," Ellen DeGeneres told Witherspoon on the former's TV show last month (while Witherspoon was promoting Rendition). The Walk the Line Oscar-winner swiftly concurred.
"Yeah," Witherspoon replied with a giggle. "He's great." |

Britney Spears will not be videotaped for her pending deposition, L.A. Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon ruled Friday morning.
Thomas Dunlap, Spears's lawyer, successfully argued that a potential leak of such a video to the Internet would cause "undue embarrassment" for the pop star.
Attorneys for Spears and ex-husband Kevin Federline appeared in court ahead of their scheduled 1:30 p.m. hearing to argue the deposition matter. The ex-couple are set to face each other in court for the first time Friday afternoon for a progress-report hearing in their custody battle.
At the morning hearing, Federline's counsel, Mark Vincent Kaplan, told the court that he had asked Spears's attorneys "on four occasions" to schedule the deposition. "I ask the court to please order [Spears] to show for deposition," Kaplan said. "We've been trying for almost one year."
The commissioner told both sides to confer and set a date.
The deposition, taken under oath, is part of Kaplan's evidence-gathering to convince the court why Federline should be awarded primary physical custody.
"Britney being deposed is a routine part of a custody battle," L.A. family law attorney Joel Schwartz, who is not involved in the case, tells PEOPLE. "Kaplan will be asking her, and anyone else he's subpoenaed, about her past drug and alcohol use, her apparent inability to follow court orders, and anything else that reveals whether she's a fit mother."
The deposition could last up to several days.
Some depositions of Spears's associates have been completed, according to the pop star's former attorney, Laura Wasser. Among those subpoenaed include her former assistant Alli Sims, former manager Larry Rudolph, and a former bodyguard.
Spears, 25, and Federline, 29, are embroiled in an ongoing custody battle over sons Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1.
For now, Federline retains physical custody of the children, while Spears has monitored visitation rights, and one overnight per week.
The judge on Friday is not expected to reinstate the 50-50 custody arrangement that was in place before Spears was stripped of custody and allowed only visitation.
On Wednesday, Spears and Federline attended their first court-mandated Parenting Without Conflict session at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
The couple are also undergoing joint co-parenting counseling. Spears is still subject to twice-weekly random drug tests. |

Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford "is having a good time" with Carrie Underwood, his costar Nicole Fiscella told PEOPLE at Tiffany & Co.'s Blue Book Collection launch Saturday.
"They're the cutest couple," Fiscella says of the duo, who have been spotted hanging out around New York City in the last month, stopping by everywhere from hot spot Marquee to Justin Timberlake's Southern Hospitality restaurant.
"Chase is just such a great guy," Fiscella, 23, says of her costar, 22. "He's so fun and I think he just loves his life right now. He seems to be having a good time with [Carrie]."
And Underwood, 24, who told PEOPLE she found Crawford "really cute," has plans to meet Crawford's Gossip Girl costars. "We were all going to meet up one night and I didn't get to meet her yet," says Fiscella, "But I hear she's a great girl." |

 | Jessica Simpson and John Mayer have ended their romance – but perhaps not for good, a source close to Simpson tells PEOPLE. "They have broken up," says the source. "But they have broken up and gotten back together at least 10 times before." According to the source, the pair are in constant contact – even as Simpson promotes her film Major Movie Star at the Cannes Film Festival in France. "They talk to each other at least six times a day. I don't know if this breakup is permanent, but for right now they are broken up." In fact, the pair have "been emailing and talking to each other," since Simpson went to Cannes, says a Simpson friend. "I'm sure they'll get back together." As for why the two singers split, a friend of Mayer's says, "John did say that he broke up [with Jessica]. He said that it was because he was just over it." But the pal says there is no other woman. "He's fine about it, he's not upset – but he's definitely not looking for someone right now." A source who spoke with Mayer recently says the breakup came as a surprise: "Whenever I've seen them, they've been tight and together. I've never seen them argue or anything." And when Mayer's Continuum tour hit Australia in April, Simpson was frequently by his side, spending down time with her beau on Byron Beach.  | Grey's Anatomy star Kate Walsh now has another reason to celebrate: In addition to getting her own spinoff, she's also getting married. "I'm engaged," the actress, 39, told PEOPLE on Tuesday at the Entertainment Weekly upfront party at The Box in New York City. "Alex [Young, a production co-president at 20th Century Fox] asked me to marry him and I said yes. We were in San Francisco last week and I'm very, very, very happy." So what makes her fiancé so special? "Oh, everything," gushed Walsh, flashing her Neil Lane Jubilee-cut diamond. "He's the most amazing man I ever met. We're in the process of planning the wedding." Walsh recently stepped out with Young at an April 28 fund-raiser for Barack Obama in Los Angeles. "He's a hotshot," a friend told PEOPLE at the time. "But Alex also has substance. He's a good guy." Meanwhile, ABC this week formally announced that Walsh will star in her own Grey's Anatomy spinoff, playing Dr. Addison Montgomery-Shepherd in Private Practice.  | Britney Spears made sure not to steal the spotlight from husband Kevin Federline as he celebrated the release of his debut album, Playing With Fire, on Tuesday. Spears donned a pink wig and oversized white sunglasses at the after-party in Hollywood, where she blended in perfectly with the Halloween night revelers, the rapper's rep confirms to PEOPLE. Earlier in the evening, Federline performed his song "Privilege" on L.A.'s KIIS 102.7 FM stage at the West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval to kick off his promotional tour. But before going onstage, he admitted that the demands of his fledging career mean he's spending less time with his family – but, he says, his pop star wife is understanding. "She's really supportive of what I'm doing, she knows I've been working on this for a long time," Federline told PEOPLE. "It's going to be tough because I'm not going to see my family as much as I want to, but I mean, those are the sacrifices you make as an artist." Spears is busy taking off the baby weight, and has been especially supportive of his CD promotion, Federline said. "She's good, man. She's getting back in shape. Hopefully she'll come meet up with me tonight over at my album release party," he told PEOPLE before the event. Though there have been reports that Federline's concerts have suffered from low ticket sales, the rapper says he's not expecting to sell out stadium shows like his megastar wife. "I don't care if it's a room full of nine, five, nine people. I don't care if there's one person. I'll perform for you," he said. "I'm a rookie artist, you can't expect because of my name to sell out a show. People don't know me as Kevin Federline, the artist. They know me as Kevin Federline, the dude that's married to Britney Spears." He added, "Eventually that will change. Once I start building up, doing events like this, showing crowds of people that I can get them turned on and hype, that's what I do." Granted, he said, that may take time, but "it's all worth it. This is like my pet project. I've been working on it for a year and a half.  Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have separated. The couple's rep released a statement to TMZ Monday morning that says "We are saddened to announce that Reese & Ryan have decided to formally separate. They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time."
Sources tell TMZ Witherspoon has contacted celebrity divorce lawyer Robert Kaufman, who has represented Jennifer Aniston, Roseanne and Lisa Marie Presley.
 Sources say Witherspoon spoke with Kaufman about divorcing Ryan Phillippe, her husband of seven years. The couple has two children. They met at Witherspoon's 21st birthday party.
As for why Witherspoon contacted Kaufman, we're told it was not triggered by one event. Rather, one connected source says it was "cumulative."

It looks like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt got what every parent wants — a healthy baby. While Namibian officials declined Sunday to give any details on the birth Saturday of Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, a doctor at the hospital said there were no complications and the mother and daughter were doing well.
"She is a healthy baby," the doctor said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release information.
Police ringed the hospital with tight security Sunday, refusing to admit journalists and photographers into the building.
Pitt's publicist Cindy Guagenti announced the birth Saturday night, but said no other information or photographs would be released.
Samuel Nuuyoma, the governor of the Namibian region of Erongo, confirmed the birth at the Welwitschia Clinic in Walvis Bay and seemed to hint that key details would be released shortly.
"Any information relating to the birth of the baby will be made available to the public soon," said Nuuyoma, who has become friends with the celebrity couple.
The government has gone to extraordinary lengths to protect the privacy of Jolie and Pitt, who came to Namibia to avoid photographers and in the weeks leading up to the birth of their first child.
Namibia put tight security around their hotel and the hospital, set up large green barriers to protect their privacy from photographers and refused to grant visas to any foreign journalists unless they had written permission from Jolie and Pitt to cover the birth.
Police have also arrested photographers and confiscated film.
Speculation about the birth escalated Tuesday when Pitt sent an e-mail to the Cannes Film Festival that he was unable to attend the screening of his new film "Babel" because of the baby's "imminent arrival."
In "Babel," directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, the 42-year-old Pitt plays a husband and father trying to cope with a crisis on vacation in Morocco. Cate Blanchett plays Pitt's wife, and the film also stars Gael Garcia Bernal.
"I am tremendously proud of `Babel' and want to congratulate everyone involved for this great achievement," Pitt said in the e-mail.
Jolie and Pitt were linked romantically shortly after appearing together in the 2005 movie "Mr.
and Mrs. Smith."
Jolie, 30, is a frequent visitor to Africa and serves as goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees. She has two adopted children: toddler Zahara, from Ethiopia, and 4-year-old Maddox, from Cambodia. Both had their surnames legally changed to Jolie-Pitt after Pitt announced his intentions to adopt the children as well.
Pitt and actress Jennifer Aniston divorced last fall.

Much has been written on the strange relationship that encompasses Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and their two adopted children. And much of it concentrates on the negative and speculation as to whether the pair can last long after their first child is born.

But friends of the actress say she has finally found peace with the help of Brad.

Life & Style Weekly cites insiders in a story that is published that claims for the first time in her life, the insiders say, Angie, 30, is truly content.
The reason - in Brad Pitt, 42, she has found someone who loves her and shares her hopes and desires for the future.
“Angelina’s achieving everything she’s ever really wanted,” says a close friend of hers. “She has a man who adores her, a biological child on the way, two adorable adopted children to raise and more adop¬tions to come. And she’s in a posi¬tion to do a huge amount to help children around the world."

That's the rub for some - as many wonder if it will last past this "pinnacle."
But in her interview with Ann Curry for NBC she certainly seemed thrilled. The change even struck Curry. “There’s been a major transforma¬tion in her,” she said. “I once knew a dark, sad woman who’s now so joy¬ful, she doesn’t stop laughing.”
The article also claims Brad is finally coming around to Jolie's unorthodox lifestyle as well. While Pitt certainly appears to be the more traditional of the two-the mag reports that he's been transformed by the relation¬ship.
Brad once seemed content just to chill out in Malibu, and he was initially horrified that Angie wanted to give birth to their child in Africa. But now, “he’s seen what she can do in Namibia, and he’s come around totally,” a friend of Angie’s tells Life & Style.
“Brad believes they’re meant to be in Africa at this time.”

Recently People magazine asked: "What is it about Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt that inspires such tall and twisted tales?" Good question! One might also ask: "What is it about Brad Pitt that causes the paparazzi to swarm in a feeding frenzy?" For it is more the Pitt factor than the Jolie factor that is at play here.

| The Pitt Factor and the Curious Case of Namibia |
Consider the Angelina precursors: Juliette Lewis, Gwynneth Paltow and Jennifer Aniston. Once distanced from the Pitt factor, their tabloid and paparazzi quotients went down. Entertainment magazines were still interested when they had a movie to publicize or when there was a major life event. But the constant fervor was no longer there.
Brad Pitt claims amazement; that he does not know why this is happening to him. But Brad is far more conscious of what he is doing to affect such results than he would have the public believe. He once said that he uses the fact that he is underestimated intellectually to his advantage in business. Nothing happens in Hollywood or Namibia by accident.
Somehow it is not Pitt's fault. It is the tabloids and the paparazzi; the press and the photographers who are to blame. They are out of control; not him. His fans defend him and claim that he has no choice but to do what he does. But now all this nonsense has reached an international forum. It is one thing to misdirect and toy with the international press but quite another to put a country in the position of having to defend itself on matters of freedom of the press and human rights.
Take the curious case of Namibia. The National Security of Human Rights "condemned the heavy-handed and brutal tactics selectively directed against local and certain foreign journalists" as "the security personnel of Pitt and Jolie and Namibia police members conducted unwarranted door-to-door searches of the homes of local residents for paparazzi and other media workers." Such actions are only constitutionally "allowed on the grounds of inter alia national security, public safety or the economic well-being of the country." Yet they happened.
The unfortunate impression is, that Namibia, normally a democratic country, in a bout of temporary insanity brought on by the Pitt factor and Angelina's charitable donations and humanitarian work, had become Brangelinaland. A number of government representatives have generally denied that they were any violations of freedom of the press or human rights; the laws were simply enforced uninfluenced by Brad and Angelina. In particular the Deputy Minister of Environment and Tourism stated in an announcement last Friday that the two visitors had at no point influenced the actions taken against foreign journalists who invaded their privacy.
Namibia wants to attract tourism. But what message are they really sending to the average tourist? That there is a double standard. If you are rich and famous, they will close the only restaurant between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund. Other tourists can fend for themselves at the nonexistent grocery store. Do not even try to walk on the public jetty. And you would think the local economy would benefit from the influx of tourist dollars brought by members of the international press. Yes, the paparazzi are not really tourists but who is to say they did not spend some of their time seeing the sights? Then Mickey Brett, Brad and Angelina's security chief, was not a tourist either despite his claims of being "on holiday". Odds are he was working without a permit, but was he deported? Not yet.
Namibia has demonstrated a selective enforcement of their laws and statutes; one for the very rich and one for all others. Granted they were in a difficult position given the Pitt factor. Why does Brad Pitt do what he does? Because he can. He indirectly used the laws and resources of a country to control and mock the legitimate international press including representatives who were asked to leave or be deported. When will the press back lash begin?

Ever since they became a couple last spring, Tom Cruise has declared his love for fiancee Katie/Kate Holmes time and time again in the press. Now Isabella, Tom's 13-year-old daughter with ex Nicole Kidman, has joined her father and echoed his same sentiments.
Tom reveals in Good Housekeeping's June issue that "after [he] began dating Kate, Bella looked at [him] and said, 'Don't let this one go. She's the one.'" In the same article, Tom also elaborates on his feelings for the soon-to-be-Mrs. Cruise, as well as their wedding plans: the couple's wedding day, he says, will "be something special... [and even more] special to have our new baby [Suri] there."

Tom and Katie are one step closer to their wedding: they signed a prenuptial contract worth $67 million. According to the Daily Mail, the “Mission: Impossible III” actor offered Katie Holmes a $41 prenup agreement. In addition, Cruise also set up a $8 million trust fund for Holmes and the couple’s new born daughter, Suri, of which they will benefit even if the marriage doesn't take place after all. The “Dawson’s Creek” actress will also receive $18 million if her and Cruise marry and then get divorced, the Daily Mail added. This puts the total amount of the prenuptial contact to $67 million. The prenuptial contract is said to have been the main reason for the couple not getting married before Suri’s birth. The details of the agreement have been settled after long talks between Cruise’s lawyers and Holmes’ father, Martin, a divorce lawyer. Now that the deal has been signed, it is expected that the tension between Katie’s father and Cruise will lessen. According to a source, although Katie’s family wasn’t happy about her love affair with Cruise and her conversion to Scientology, they are now satisfied about her financial situation, at least. ”Now this deal has been sorted out they are at least relieved that Katie and her baby will be financially secure for life, even if she doesn't marry Tom,” the source said. "Tom has also made clear to Katie's parents that he was happy to give her a chunk of his money because he feels sincere in his love for her. His attitude showed that he does love their daughter - even if they still have issues about the way she has changed since meeting him.” |

It's a girl for Tom and Katie!
Just nine months after Katie Holmes' love for Tom Cruise made headlines, everyone is waiting patiently for their first-born's imminent arrival.
Well, now, no one has to wait to decide what color pajamas they’re going to buy as a gift!
Access Hollywood has learned that Tom and Katie will be welcoming a daughter into the world.
Of course, the excited, soon-to-be Mommy has been busy decorating a nursery.
Katie picked up $20,000 worth of bedding and furniture at L.A.'s chic Petit Tresor boutique, according to People magazine.
"It's very easy to rack up an expensive bill especially when you are as excited like she is and it your first baby," Petit Tresor co-owner Samantha Winch told us.
Samantha and business partner Nina Takesh gave us a preview of Tom and Katie's must-haves for their special delivery!
Nina showed us the beautiful nursery pattern that was chosen for baby's bedroom walls.
"It incorporates all the beautiful rhymes, nursery rhymes that we are all very familiar with from 'Humpty Dumpty" to "Cat and the Fiddle" and bringing us back to what is beautiful and what is intrinsic in a old-fashioned nursery," Nina said.
Samantha showed us a Fleur Veel diaper bag that retails for $178!
"It's very popular," Samantha said. "Katie loved it."
A fancy faux mink mini teddy bear for $49 also caught Katie's eye.
"It is adored by Katie and Tom," Nina said. "It has several different pieces that go with it, one being the hat again lined with faux beautiful mink."
And Teddy’s faux mink throw?
It retails for $155 and is an absolute must-have according to Samantha and Nina.
But there was one item Katie knew she was not going to see right away if someone purchased it from the registry.
So, she bought the plush elephant herself!
"The elephant was adored by Katie," Samantha said. "It's very plush and soft and she just couldn't stop squeezing it." |

Tom Cruise told Germany's leading tabloid in its Monday edition that he wanted to tie the knot this summer with fiancee Katie Holmes, after the birth of their baby and the upcoming release of his new film, "Mission Impossible III."
Cruise was in Germany to plug the film on the country's popular "Wetten Dass ..." ("I'll Bet ...") TV show. He said on the show Saturday that two pilots were at the ready to fly him home should Holmes go into labor.
"If Katie calls, I'm gone," Cruise said, insisting that he wanted to be present at the birth of their first child.
Cruise confirmed to Bild that he and Holmes planned to marry in the coming months.
"First the baby, then the film," he was quoted as saying. "Then, in summer, we want to get married. I won't let this woman get away."
Cruise is both starring in and co-producing the third installment in the "Mission Impossible" series, filmed in China and Italy. The film is due to be released on May 5, 2006. |

Gabriel Aubry is one of the world's top male models. Commanding a $30,000-a-day rate, he rakes in millions a year.
And it was on a Versace campaign where the 30-year-old first met Halle four months ago.
“You can see the photos are great,” said Sean Patterson, Gabriel’s agent. “It's absolutely beautiful. She looks drop-dead gorgeous. He looks incredible.”
Sean told Access that Halle and Gabriel's on-set chemistry set off real life sparks.
“It was something that was completely unexpected, and he's just enjoying each day as it goes by, and he's very, very happy right now,” Sean told us.
Not only has Gabriel hooked up with a major movie star, at 39, Halle also is an older woman — nine years older!
Yet for those who think he's using her to jumpstart his own career — think again.
“I don't [know] if it could enhance his career because he's already the best in the business for the most part, and I don't think he's set his sights on any other business, I don't think, again, it would be that much of a plus,” Sean said.
A model for more than eight years, the Montreal native was discovered right out of college at a Canadian nightclub.
And ever since, Gabriel’s been a favorite of the fashion world, including designer Tommy Hilfiger, who recently uncovered a backstage interview with Gabriel from 2002.
“I would say what's different this year is it’s less sporty than it is normally,” said Gabriel, in the February 2002 interview.
This season Gabriel is the face of Gap, Versace and Hugo Boss.
“Last year I'd have to say he was the highest-earning male model in the business and I don't see it curtailing anytime soon,” Sean said.
Successful career and good genes? Interesting!
Halle did recently tell Oprah she’d like to have a baby by 40 and her birthday is in August.

But the Batman Begins actress insists those close to her know it is genuine—and that's all that matters.
She says, "It's a bit annoying, but I'm not worrying about things like that. I'm enjoying my time with Tom.
"It would be nice if people were happy for us, but our friends know how happy we are together, so why should I care about what rumors are floating out there in the press?"

Tom Cruise's spokesperson, Lee Anne DeVette, has confirmed that Katie Holmes is pregnant with Tom Cruise's baby, telling reporters that "Tom and Katie are very excited, and the entire family is very excited."
Either one of those crazy bastards is coming out with a movie and they've jumped the publicity stunt into overdrive, or things have gotten terribly out of hand and Katie Holmes is actually pregnant. Although I could've sworn Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman adopted children because he couldn't get people pregnant. Something about not having any sperm or preferring sex with men. Whatever the reason, it doesn't make sense that he would suddenly be able to start knocking people up. I don't know what's going on here, but it's freaking me out, man.
